News from Addgene: COVID-19 Updates


March 24, 2020

In response to the rapidly changing local and global COVID-19 situation, Addgene is committed to the health and safety of our employees and community, while maintaining reduced operations and continuing to serve scientists. As of March 23, Addgene is processing and shipping plasmid orders in a reduced capacity. We would also like to prioritize shipment of plasmid orders related to ongoing coronavirus and COVID-19 research. Please read the sections below for information and instructions.

We are basing decisions on the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), and we are closely monitoring the situation. Please find the most up-to-date information about orders, shipments, and deposits below:

Orders and Shipments of Plasmids

You can continue to place new plasmid orders on our website.

Addgene is processing and shipping plasmid orders in a reduced capacity. We will not be shipping pooled libraries or kits at this time. When your order is ready to be processed, we will contact you to confirm that you and your organization are ready to receive the shipment.

Additionally, we are aware that some universities and institutions may be closed or may have reduced personnel to accept shipments. If possible, please avoid placing new orders until you are able to receive them. However, if you would like to place a hold on an order that has not shipped, please email [email protected].

If you are requesting plasmids for coronavirus or COVID-19 research, please email us at [email protected] with your order number and we will prioritize your order.

Orders and Shipments of Viral Preps

At this time, Addgene is not shipping any virus orders. You can continue to place new orders for ready-to-use viral preps on our website, but these will not ship at this time. We will update this page once we resume shipments of virus orders. Once we resume virus order processing, we will email you to confirm that your organization can accept shipments prior to shipping your order.

Plasmid Deposits

Currently Addgene is not receiving physical plasmid deposits at our facility. Please do not send plasmid deposit shipment kits back to Addgene at this time. Scientists can continue to enter data for new plasmid deposits via the methods outlined on Addgene’s deposit page.

In addition to the above, Addgene will continue to offer customer support for ordering plasmids and viral preps, as well as scientific technical support.
