How to Order
All orders must be placed online through our website. Addgene does not accept orders by phone, fax, or email.
Placing an order with Addgene takes a few simple steps:

You will be required to affiliate your account with your institution. If your institution has not worked with Addgene in the past, first we will verify its status as a non-profit/academic organization and then notify you that you can go ahead and place an order. Accounts will be verified within 24 hours.
Addgene accepts orders ONLY from academic or non-profit organizations. Please see our Distribution Policy for more information.

Addgene is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the scientific community with open, efficient and affordable access to plasmid research tools. The nominal fee for ordering plasmids is used to cover operating costs and improve the repository. There is no fee for depositing plasmids.
Shipping: Shipping charges are in addition to the plasmid prices. Please see the Shipping Information for more details.
Discounts: Addgene’s goal is to make research tools available to the entire scientific community. If your laboratory cannot afford the standard prices, Addgene can help defray this cost. This policy exists to enable the distribution of materials to underfunded labs (e.g. in developing countries). If you believe your lab qualifies, please email Addgene at help@addgene.org with a brief explanation of your financial situation.
Depositing Labs: If a lab needs to recover any of the plasmids they have deposited, Addgene can help. The cost for this service is $5 per plasmid, plus shipping/handling. To receive this special pricing, please email Addgene at help@addgene.org.
Generating a Quote: If your purchasing department places orders on your behalf, you can use the Addgene website to generate a quote. Navigate to your cart once you have added the plasmids you need, and you will see an option to generate a quote. This link will create a document for you to pass along to your purchasing office. Purchasing agents can either generate a PO number for you to enter (see below), or create their own Addgene account and place the order on our website.
Payments Options: During the checkout process, you can enter a Purchase Order (PO) number or credit card information for payment. If you choose to pay by PO, Addgene will issue an invoice to the billing address you provide during checkout.
Payment by Credit Card: Addgene accepts VISA, MasterCard & American Express during the checkout process. Note that your credit card will not be charged until after you order has shipped from Addgene. If you select to pay by credit card, Addgene does not mail a payment receipt. If you require a receipt indicating that your order is paid in full for your records, send an email request to help@addgene.org after your order has been received.
Payment by Purchase Order*: To receive an invoice or bill for your order, you can choose to pay by Purchase Order (PO) number. Please contact your institution’s purchasing department to have an authorized PO number generated for your order and enter this number during checkout.
If you pay by PO number, please enter your institution’s Accounts Payable address as the “Bill To” address. After your order ships, Addgene will issue an invoice to this address referencing the authorized PO number. Your institution can pay this invoice by credit card or check. Payment terms are net 30 days from the invoice date.
*Note: Addgene accepts Purchase Order numbers as a form of payment information, but faxed and emailed purchase orders cannot be processed. All orders must be placed directly through the Addgene website.

All requests through Addgene require a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA). Most requests will be covered under the Uniform Biological Material Transfer Agreement (PDF). Addgene has implemented an electronic MTA system to streamline this process. Most MTAs are approved within 2 to 3 business days. For more information, click here.
All purchases are subject to Addgene’s Terms of Purchase.
If you are from a commercial entity, we can direct you to a contact person at the institution that provided the plasmids. Some institutions can provide the plasmids to you under an MTA.
