Open laptop EchoSign for Plasmid Deposit Approvals

February 2013 - EchoSign Update:

Since Addgene launched its EchoSign program in October 2012, over 40 Deposit and Distribution Agreements have been fully executed using the EchoSign e-signature software. Offices that cannot process Agreements using e-signature have the option of printing a PDF file from EchoSign and processing the document in a way that works for their system. Agreements executed through EchoSign are fully executed in approximately 13 days - 65% faster than Agreements executed through PDF/paper during that same time!

Feedback regarding EchoSign from depositing institutions has been overwhelmingly positive: many offices appreciate the automatic reminder emails and the easy user interface. When an agreement is fully executed, EchoSign automatically sends a copy of the fully executed PDF to all signing parties so that no one is left out of the loop.

Currently, Addgene is only sending Deposit and Distribution Agreements through EchoSign to Technology Transfer Offices with contacts known to Addgene. If your office is interested in receiving EchoSign Agreements or if you have feedback about EchoSign, please contact us at [email protected] .

October 2012:

In an effort to streamline the approval process for plasmid deposits, Addgene is pleased to announce a new e-signature pilot program for Deposit and Distribution Agreements using EchoSign . EchoSign is an industry leader in web contracting and digital signatures. The product works seamlessly with multiple software platforms and mobile devices, and is fully compliant with the Federal E-SIGN Act.

Here’s how it works: Addgene emails the pending agreement to an institution's Technology Transfer Contact through EchoSign's secure web interface. The TTO can review and sign the agreement or may forward the agreement to the designated signatory at their institution using a simple, highlighted link in the email. The document is e-signed and submitted back to EchoSign. When the agreement is fully executed, EchoSign distributes a copy of the agreement to all signing parties which can be printed or saved in a PDF. Additionally, EchoSign creates reminder emails so that pending agreements do not become lost in piles of paper.

We are currently testing EchoSign signatures with several academic institutions, and the responses have been positive. For those offices that prefer to sign on paper, rest assured that Addgene will continue to offer paper-based signatures as an option.
