Depositor Comments
pBS314 is the parental plasmid from which the EIIa-cre transgene construct was excised for microinjection into fertilized zygotes to produce EIIa-cre mice. In these mice Cre is expressed in fertilized zygotes and preimplantation embryos, but not subsequently. Such mice have been used either to delete a loxP-flanked transgene or to turn on expression of a transgene by recombinational activation of gene expression. The temporal limitation of Cre expression and recombination to early embryogenesis also provides a convenient mechanism to generate mosaic mice for targeted gene ablation or gene activation.
EIIa-cre mice are available from the Jackson Laboratory.
