Addgene is excited to now be distributing a limited portion of its plasmid collection to for-profit entities. Since 2004, Addgene has received numerous requests from depositing scientists and institutions to share their materials beyond just the academic sphere. Thus, we are pleased to fulfill this request and to contribute to additional scientific discoveries by distributing plasmids to industrial researchers.
It is important to note that the only plasmids that are currently available to industry are plasmids for which we've received explicit permission from the depositing scientists and institutions. If you are a depositing lab and you have not been in touch with Addgene about this program, your plasmids are only available to academic labs. To learn more or to become part of the industrial distribution program, please contact Addgene at help@addgene.org.
Addgene is working with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) to assemble a collection of plasmids for Parkinson's disease research.

Every Addgene order must be accompanied by a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA). For transfers to for-profit entities, Addgene uses an Industry Material Transfer Agreement (IMTA). This is a legal agreement between the recipient and the depositing institutions. It governs the transfer of biological materials and intellectual property rights, and provides liability protection for material providers. Under the terms of the IMTA, the recipients can use the biological materials for research purposes only. The Industry MTA must be signed by an authorized signatory at the recipient institution.
The MTA Process:
1) Once your order has been placed on our website, Addgene will email you a link to the Recipient Scientist Acknowledgement (RSA). This form can be completed electronically by the scientist who will be using the materials in the order.
2) After the RSA is complete, Addgene will email you the Industry Material Transfer Agreement to print and have authorized. The IMTA must be signed by an authorized signatory at the recipient institution. An authorized signatory is someone who can execute legal documents on behalf of the recipient institution.
3) Once the IMTA has been signed, it can be emailed or faxed back to us (mta@addgene.org, 617-300-8688). After we review and approve the MTA documents, your order will be processed and shipped.
If you have any questions about the MTA process, please contact us at mta@addgene.org.
Addgene uses UPS to ship both domestic (US) and international (outside the US) orders. When your order is shipped, you will receive an email notification including the UPS tracking number for your reference.
