- A recombinant plasmid expressed inserted DNA sequences coding for prokaryotic methotrexate-resistant dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) of unspecified origin, using a SV40 early promoter region and polyadenylation signals from the rabbit globin gene. The DHFR gene insert begins at base 4. The plasmids were grown in mouse fibroblasts and produced chimeric mRNA coding for the prokaryotic enzyme. The mouse fibroblasts became Mtx resistant.
