- This was isolated from an S-variant vaccinia population subjected to strong selective pressure by growing in cells in the presence of BUdR. [3] This is a thymidine kinase negative (TK-) mutant of the S-variant of vaccinia virus strain WR. Plasmids can be introducted into this mutant by in vivo recombination.
